Commissioner McDonald was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales as a solicitor in 1990 and practiced as a solicitor until she was called to the Bar in 2007. Whilst at the Bar she was briefed in industrial and workplace matters including work health and safety prosecutions as well as in many other diverse areas including legal costs, commercial law and class actions.
