The Hon. Acting Justice Peter Kite

The Hon. Justice Peter Kite was sworn in as Acting Deputy President of the Industrial Relations Commission and Acting Justice of the Industrial Court of New South Wales by President Justice Ingmar Taylor in a private ceremony on 20 December 2024.

Acting Justice Kite was the Chief Commissioner of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission from 2017 to 2019, after having served as Acting Deputy President of the Commission and Acting Judge of the Industrial Court of NSW.

Prior to his appointment in the Industrial Court, Acting Justice Kite was recognised as a leading Senior Counsel specialising in industrial relations and an accredited mediator with the NSW Bar Association. He was the NSW Bar Association’s representative on the NSW Industrial Relations Advisory Council for four years.

His Honour served as the Chair of the Law Council of Australia’s Federal Litigation and Dispute Resolution Section for six years and was on the Section’s Executive Committee from 1998 to 2014. 

Acting Justice Kite was also a member of the Law Council’s Futures Working Group and the Working Group on the Review of the Evidence Act 2005 (Cth), and contributed to submissions responding to the Workplace Relations (More Jobs Better Pay) Bill 1999 and the Workplace Relations Amendment Bill 2000.
