The Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales welcomes the appointment of three Acting Justices to the Industrial Court, who have also been appointed as Acting Deputy Presidents.
The President of the Commission, Justice Ingmar Taylor, swore in Acting Justice Robert Hulme, Acting Justice Monika Schmidt AM, and Acting Justice Peter Kite, on Friday, 20 December 2024.
“Acting Justices Schmidt AM and Hulme are widely regarded as preeminent criminal jurists in this State, having both sat on the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal. They will be able to sit on appeal in work health and safety matters.
“Acting Justice Schmidt AM commenced her judicial career as a Judge and Deputy President of the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW, and it is wonderful that the Commission has someone of her experience who can sit on appeal in complex industrial matters.
“Acting Justice Kite, as a former head of this jurisdiction, will be invaluable to the Commission and the Industrial Court at both first instance and on appeal,” Justice Taylor said.
Acting Justice Hulme was appointed as a Judge of the District Court in 2005, and a Judge of the Supreme Court of NSW in 2009, and remains an Acting Justice of that Court.
Acting Justice Schmidt AM served as a judge of the Industrial Court of NSW and a Deputy President of the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW from 1993. Acting Justice Schmidt AM was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of NSW in 2009 and remains an Acting Justice of that Court.
Acting Justice Kite was the Chief Commissioner of the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW from 2017 to 2019, having previously been Acting Deputy President of the Commission and Acting Judge of the Industrial Court of NSW.
“It is a testament to the Commission that three such eminent and experienced jurists would take the appointments,” Justice Taylor said.
On behalf of the judges and commissioners of the Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales, His Honour, Justice Ingmar Taylor extends his congratulations and best wishes to the new appointees.
